I am looking for a long zoom lense camera with Image Stabilization & have it narrowed down to two; (1) Canon PowerShot SI 1S; (2)Panasonic DMC-FZ3. I can get either on Saturday for $499.00 canadian. Any opinions on which one for my first digital camera purchase, thanks.

I know Danny wants the Canon. I'd go with that if I were you...Danny used to hate Canons.

Personally I prefer Canons but I think that is because I have always had them- how many mega pixels ans what sort of zoom do they have? Go for the most mega pixels and the best zoom facility (don't bother with digital zoom...it's rubish!

Well...I would definitely go for the Canon. So far as I can see there are several benefits.
1. It looks much sexier!!
2. You are getting a more expensive camera at a reduced rate.
3. It has a higher resolution and is 3.2 mp as apposed to 3mp.
4.you have the manual focus option
5.It can take more continuous images before having to store them.
6. Compact flash cards are generally cheaper to buy.
7.You get a bigger storage card included.
8. You can take pictures at super fine quality.

The only thing I don't like with the compact digital cameras is that there is a shutter delay- doesn't mention it in the spiel but they're bound to have them and that can be annoying if you are trying to 'capture the moment' as the moment is gone before the camera take the photo.

Canons (even the cheap ones) have the image quality over most brands.
