A U.K. woman who checked into a Travelodge this week was stunned to find an "I'm going to rape you" message on the TV in her suite.
The woman arrived Wednesday at the Travelodge in Gateshead, England, where she saw the disturbing phrase in all capitals on her TV screen.
She then alerted the hotel in a tweet, "Thanks @TravelodgeUK as a woman staying alone in one of your rooms this is great. Check your tv welcome messages."
The tweet included a photo of her TV.
The hotel apologized, removed the message and refunded the woman's money.
The following day, the woman thanked the chain on Twitter for taking her complaint seriously.
A Travelodge spokesman said someone likely altered the TV's settings using the manufacturer's code, The Guardian reported.
"We have already been in contact with the customer involved and apologized that such a message could appear," a hotel spokesman told the newspaper.
"We take the security of our guests and our systems very seriously and while this is an isolated incident, applicable to only one room, we have consequently launched a full investigation with our television supplier."
