Then why are the Republicans using it to drum up support for more military action by the USA in foriegn lands?

But you cannot argue with success. After the Bush team got 9-11 arranged and spectacularly carried out, his popularity went through the roof. And support for crushing anyone with a beard did too. And so did the war on Islam begin in ernest...
