When you say you can't get into your email does this mean that you are trying to launch an email program or are you trying to use firefox to access your email online?

Windows XP and Windows 7 use different email applications so it may be that the Windows 7 email program hasn't been setup correctly to access your account.

It's not clear what your problem actually is. For instance, is your email access done through a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox to an email service like hotmail.com or gmail.com, or through an email client like Outlook Express, Eudora, or Thunderbird that runs on your local PC?

I took it to the comp. shop and the guy said the the driver wen't out.He suggested the wnidow 7 (counte....r) and collected 140AUS.$ when I piced up my laptop everything was gone including my email whenevr I tried to conec t o my email ,I'm told that the user name and or the pass word dont match .If you think that you can do something in that direction I can PR you my email add. and the password(s),

No, that's a security breach we shouldn't do. I was going to tell you the same thing eh1eh did, go to the Hotmail sign in page and try it. If you don't have your email password, there's a "Forgotten your password?" link on that page. I don't use Hotmail so I don't know the details of how it works, but password recovery procedures usually require you to correctly answer a question you specified when you first signed up, like your mother's maiden name or something like that, then they'll let you change it to a new one without having to give the old one. Or they'll send it to another email address of yours, if you have one. Not very secure, which is why I don't use 3rd party email services. I once searched for information about hacking such accounts and got over 18 million hits. Scrolling through the first few pages suggested about two thirds of them were horror stories about people whose accounts had been hacked, the other third were sites offering the tools to do it with.

Don't know about W7 but a router means I have to change by mail server name from 'shawmail' to something like 'shawmail.rd.shaw.net' (stand-alone program)

Might I suggest Linux OS

Edit to add. I recall that while setting up the wireless connection it matters a great deal which channel you choose, some have a much stronger connection than others. I forget how to do it but I think you had a choice of about 11 and only a few gave the best connection speeds.
