i want to crash, reboot, you know clean my computer out.... I dont know where to start, i have two sets of discs. The first pair, labeled recovery disk one and two.. And the other set are labeled One, discs 1,2,3....

I put the recovery disks in and the autorun opened up the CD's. There were a bunch of files, and im not sure what to do.

Can anyone help?

You mean you want to reformat it?
Best to take it to a guru and spend a few bucks to reinstall windows and overwrite the files in case your missing some, that way you wont lose anything.

Ya, that's a problem. I am too and I was not given an original copy of the Vista OS. On my machines running XP, I just pop in the original disc and completely reload the OS. Now I am having problems with Vista, such as using 60% of my 3 gig memory to sit idle.

My plan is to get Windows 7 as when you upgrade you can get a CD of the OS.

If anyone else has a fix for Vista I would also like to know about it.

I wouldnt do it yourself unless you have an idea what your doing,a guru will have a copy of windows and it will just overwrite the files so you have like a new version and it's not expensive, better then screwing it up and then it will cost you bucks, ive never had much luck with recovery discs and wouldnt recommend doing it if your a computer noob.

I would run spybot search and destroy first and malwarebytes as well as do a boot scan like avast AV will do for you, sounds like you have some spy or malware.
Someone posted the links to these free tools on another topic here.

Guru's make lots of money fixing computers after someone tried to do it themselves.

Kakato is right, Windows wont bog down your PC that much as long as you keep doing reg cleans etc. If your PC is using 60% at idle either your PC cant handle Vista or you have a virus/ trojan.

I found avast AV found stuff norton and avg didnt,it then recommended a boot scan and did everything for me no problems.

Avast also told me that my version of AVG had bug issues with certain cd burning software,it did as AVG totally toasted my computer after the latest version and i still cant get rid of it,thats why I tried avast and am totally impressed with it.

Note-AVG has issues with Roxio cd burning software but you wont see that on any avg site,if you had that software then good chance you had to take your pc to a guru to get it working again,i had my other computer so was able to google the problem and found the fix and it involved setting my computer clock back to the date before the newest version and doing a few other tasks, thats why I'll never run avg again,it was good up untill that time.

Depending on the make of your computer, if it came with "recovery Disks" instead of an "operating system disk"...that means your PC came with several programs pre-installed.
In your "Programs" you should have one that is entitled something as simple as "Recovery"
You start that program and it will guide you through the process....with several warnings that proceeding will wipe everything on your PC and once you start the first "Recovery CD" there is no turning back...
Every six months or so I use the program (I have an Acer) to make a fresh batch of recovery disks....just in case...because system restore will not help if you got a virus....only complete recovery.

Up north we would be give an acer every week to put in the blast and get blowed up real good.

Not bad computers but they couldnt take the cold or the beating that came from travelling,my compaq on the other hand is like a timex watch, takes a licking and keeps on ticking.I even froze the lcd screen at - 60 and it still worked after an hour of warm up.

Funny you should say that....in '02 I bought a Compaq Presario and for a couple of years had a whole bunch of troubles with it....but what finally did it for me was that after I had it for about two years.....on first start in the morning, it would go half way through the process and stop, and I would have to start over again....then it went to two false starts then three until I figured that it wasn't "warm" enough to start and started using my wife's hair blower every morning on it before starting.

When even the hair blower trick didn't work anymore, It ended up in the dumpster at "Tim Horton" and I got this Acer now, that's serving me well..so far.
