What is the best online email.

i'm currently using gmail but does anyone know any better "free" email services on the web?

Yahoo has announced starting in May they are going to start having unlimited space accounts.

But they will have some spamming regulations.

What would make one online email service better then another. To me catching junk mail is a big plus.

I use Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client. Free, open source, reliable, recommended. And my ISP provides an email server I can log into with any web browser from anywhere and get and send email. Commercial email services like Hotmail and Lycos and Google are magnets for hackers and spammers, I won't use them, and don't need to.

with gmail, i don't believe its a hacking tool. If u know much about computers, u'd know that any email client is hackable. I think it all depends what you use it for and where u access it.
But hey, nothing is perfect.

I am a big fan of gmail and webmail in general. I even have a .procmailrc (is that the right file?) set up to forward all my mail from my school email account to my gmail account. No matter where I am in the world, no matter what computer I am running on, I can read email as long as I have a web browser. You can even check it with a crude browser like 'links'. I don't like the way hotmail goes about their advertisements, I had a yahoo account a long time ago, but I never used it for much.

I will put in another word for Mozilla Thunderbird. I like things that work well and Mozilla Thunderbird certainly does. It is simply the most glitch-free email client out there.

One of our guys uses Thunderbird, a bunch of us use Eudora. I worked at one place where we all had to follow the corporate line and use Outlook, but I was glad to get out of that. From what I see, Thunderbird looks very good.

If we are talking about non-web-based clients, Outlook is the best.

If you got a good computer, and Microsoft Office `07, Outlook is very flawless, and is the best imo.

I use it for everything, and have a hotmail account for my other stuff.

i agree...microsoft office 07 outlook is very good, i use it connected to my gmail account so i don't have to go through my internet browser to check my email. Can't say i've had any problems with the program itself...so its definitely worth getting.

I have a number of web-based email accounts. Gmail, actually two of them, hotmail, and my school account, which alumni get for the rest of their lives. I can check my email from anywhere which is great. I have an account with Eastlink, but I never use it.

My school account works great, and they're changing to a new system this summer, so I'm transfering lots of stuff right now.

I'm using both outlook 2003 and Mozilla Thunderbird. I started off using Outlook but I've acquired quite a few different email accounts used for different things so I thought I'd give Thunderbird a try. I'm starting to prefer Thunderbird, plus it's free!

There are several programs which work far more smoothly and reliably than Outlook. I really like Eudora, but I see Thunderbird is very nice as well. Some of the folks at work use Outlook, and they're constantly trying to get it to do simple things that are so easy in these other systems.

The ability to copy/move mailboxes is kludgy, slow, and not straightforward. The way it handles attachments is kludgy, slow, and painful. The way it handles archiving is kludgy, slow, and not straighforward. The way it handles subfolders, filing of attachments, and general organization is kludgy, slow, and not straightforward.

Isn`t `kludgy and slow something to do with the computer.

I have a new laptop with dual core processor and 200 GB hard-drive. Windows Vista Home Premium, and Office `07 and Outlook works amazingly well.

And are you judging `03 or `07 edition.

I have no problems with Outlook on my computer.

And TenPenny, I have been noticing you make alot of statements but never back them up with anything until your asked, not very good format for forum debates.
