Be sure you have eaten a while before this.....

Today I popped each and every key, a few at a time, out of my "eggshell Ivory" keyboard out (WHY do they make them that colour???) and cleaned them off with a papertowel soaked in Windex. (Bear in mind I'm a smoker, so even the grime that a NON-smoker would eventually get is multiplied by that "lovely" pale tan colour, if you spend a year or two on it, like I do).

But underneath! Around the little square slots they fit into? - Yeesh! I used Windex-soaked Q-tips for that.....

Toast crumbs, bits of tobbaco, cat hairs (she sits on my lap sometimes), even the odd little hair of MINE, or an eyelash! Even one or two of the TEENY little "no-see-um" bugs that I remember sweeping away from the Monitor on last summers warm evenings, (do you get those ones that can even get through the screen, they are so darn tiny?).

Gross......

The keyboard can get dirty at times. I never clean mine properly. All I do is turn it upside down, give it a couple taps and wipe the top with a Kleenex.

I never eat in front of my computer and sometimes only have a coffee so the keyboard never gets any dirt, crumbs or spills on it.

I spilled a cup of coffee on mine once, and the keys just wouldn't move at all. No problem tho, just bought a cheap Memorex one to replace it. Now,there is one that is basically spillproof..that might be my next keyboard!

I go through a couple keyboards each year... I spend a lot of time behind the screen, and coffee is ususally my keyboard killer. I buy cheapo 9-12 dollar keyboards and if they last six months I'm happy =)

I don't even wanna know what's mucking up my keyboard. My l'il lovebird is very hard on it, between her food and her poop. No coffee yet, but I'm sure the kids have spilled a few things on it.

Sometimes it's easier to just buy a new one.

That's also why I'm looking to buy a new house... this one just isn't worth cleaning anymore.

My son just turned 11, and my daughter is 8˝. Sometimes I think if it weren't for them I'd never get out of my house. Probably wouldn't have to change out of my jammies either.

Now that your keyboard is clean, it's time to get to work on your monitor.
