I've been checking around again at the most updated versions in the browser race.. To my surprise, Firefox sucks.. still.

The cosmetics are too reminicent of the new generation Netscape Communicator browser that came out in the 90s. It's very slow and it's just not a nice browser!

Opera on the other hand lives up to my expectations and it's still my secondary browser after Internet Explorer... which I'd love to get away from eventually.

I use Safari v 1.0.3 exclusively. I've used iCab, it isn't bad, but Safari is a lot better. Internet Exploder is the worst of them all. Netscape used to be the god of browsers but it isn't really any better than IE now.

Added "Safari" and "Other" to the options. Go ahead and vote, Haggis.

Hotdamn, look at that, 50% of surfers use Safari. Okay, okay, but so what if it's only because just two people have voted.

Only 4 votes, wow.. I surprised anybody is here without a web browser! Let's get some feedback on what the preferred browser is!

I like the thinking of this crew :) Internet Explorer has one vote out of 7... where's everyone else??

Wow, nice to hear. I tried and ditched Firefox a while ago because it was so slow. Most notably, too slow to launch. Someone told me that's the java engine firing up, but I don't care what it is. I'm not going to wait almost a full minute for my browser to fire up.

I ran it on three different computers and each of them had the same problem - slow first launch. After it had run once, it was fine, but that first one after a boot always hurt. I posted that on another board I frequent and about 1/2 the people had the same problem as me, and the other half didn't know what I was talking about. Therefore, it seems to be unpredictable - but I don't think it's my machines because they were three different Windows versions on three different networks.

What I did learn from Firerfox is that I love skins and tabs. So, I switched to Opera which is blazingly fast, has tabs, and is skinnable. And just coincidentally it has a Linux version so I can run it on my laptop :)

I voted "other" because I use MAXTHON - and it uses the IE engine.

Like you, Andem, I don't find FireFox that great - in comparison to IE. The nice part about Maxthon is the tabbed browsing, etc. IE/Maxthon is still the fastest and most friendly of the browsers, and I would love for someone to convince me otherwise.

Just like Outlook Express (I know, this is about browsers, but ...) - no other email program can compare (that I have seen, anyway, and i've tried just about all available).

Firefox is getting better. It's not yet as good as Opera, but it's catching up.

As to outlook express, try Mozilla-Thunderbird.

I don't understand the negativity about Firefox in here. I've tried a lot of browsers, based on the first rule of intelligent computer use (i.e. don't use any Microsoft software if you don't have to), and it's the one I've found works best on my system and with the way I like to do things. By any measure, like speed, ease of use, appearance, security, features, plugins...it's the best one I've seen. I've never had a problem with it, and for me it works superbly in all five versions I've used, on both Windows and Linux.

Maybe it's just a matter of personal style and preferences? I dunno. But I like Firefox.

I have purchased Opera and I have it on disc but I didn't care for it , I did end up getting a refund ... I then try Firefox 1.0 with the same result couldn't care for that as well , Though I did try everything possible to configure these browsers to load quicker but neither of the two could match up with Internet Explorer ... I believe if you have third parties software programs like a Firewall , spyblocker and spystopper with an anti virus program you can't go wrong with Internet Explorer which i haven't had yet ...

Firefox has been a pain from the day I installed it. I have since installed 3 times, one an upgrade, and it still makes me sick. I would like to start the "I Hate Firefox Club."

I still use Firefox for sensitive things, since I'm not sure IE has finished dealing with all the exploits. Inevitably, when I am logged in to a secure site, Firefox will interrupt my session, close out the window I am working in and open a new, temporary window asking me for feedback! Of course, it includes a statement at the bottom stating that you can always click on cancel and send feedback later. But, my secure session has already been closed out completely and I have to start over again. The window it opened doesn't have any cached pages or history, so I have to reload Firefox all over again. :x

Sometimes I will do a search for a word or phrase, and it says phrase not found. Sometimes I know that's not true, because I'm searching a page in my own site and I know the phrase exists there. Some days it finds them. There seems to be no logical explanation for when it decides to find the words and when it just won't find anything. It's a real will o' the wisp program. :x

Firefox is much slower than IE in opening the browser and in loading pages. If a page takes a while to load because of pictures or media, Firefox returns a message that it "can't be found." If I click on reload, it won't even try to load the page again, just keeps putting out that same nasty message that it can't be found. I find myself screaming at it: "You didn't even look!" It's like one strike and you're out. :x

I have media on my home page which plays fine in IE. Firefox shows a box with a notice that additional plug-ins are required and a link to download the plug-ins. I download the plug-ins recommended, go through all the motions and end up with the same thing I started out with - a box that says you need to download additional plugins; click here. I say okay, I don't need to hear the media, so I close out the box, but Firefox reopens it. Installing the plugins from the toolbox doexn't work either. The plugin's icon shows on my taskbar but there is no sound. I have also had computer experts look at this, and the answer they give me is I can't play media on my page in the Firefox browser.

I can't edit my html pages in Firefox. While looking at one of my html files on my computer in IE, if I find an error, I can quickly correct it by editing it from the source. Using Firefox, I have to open up an html editor.

When I installed Firefox it copied all of my IE saved Favorites. Problem is I have a whole lot of them. Looking at the bookmarks in Firefox, it didn't put them in the order they were listed in IE, alphabetical order, IP order, date order, no order - they're just there! I have to search to find what I want. There are so many, I hate the thought of trying to rearrange them again. Why couldn't it copy them in the order I had them in? :x

The only good thing about Firefox is the Google search box, and for all the other trouble it gives me, I'd just as soon find Goodle from the IE browser Favorites.
