it's a great place. any city operates the same, you stay away from the 'dark'' corners. you won't have any problem figuring it out. just get a good map book, or even go on line to the area that you are to be attending school. you could also get hold the the college you will be attending, they should have info for accommodation and stuff on their web site. good luck and enjoy!!!

You'll definately have no problem moving here, toast. As galianomama mentioned, stay away from the dark corners. Fortunately for you, the 'dark corners' in Toronto or other Canadian cities aren't really dangerous compared to any comparable city in size.

It's really a safe place to live, and the expenses are just like anywhere else in the world. Rent is a little expensive in Toronto, but as long as you watch what you spend, you shouldn't have any issues there either.

dangerous things..........hmmmm, maybe people who have not had hockey this year! ha ha....i don't think of canada as being too dangerous. maybe some wild bears and stuff but that kinda thing isn't found in cities. except for victoria, b.c., when we had a cougar (yikes) in the basement of a hotel. it was just a fluke. honest.

things are medium priced. not too expensive, but probably more expensive than the states. oranges - around 89 cents a pound, meat around 7 dollars a pound (all canadian money), milk around $2.50 for 2 litres. if you are staying on your own you would probably need about $1000.00 a month - hey everybody does that sound right? help me out here, i dunno. maybe 5-6 hundred dollars for rent, $200 for food (!) and $200 at least for beer. someone else take the ball..........

He's going to OCAD, so he's going to be in Toronto.

I think 1000$ is probably not enough if he is not going to be living on campus. I have a couple of friends at OCAD who do manage to scrape by with VERY little, though. So it might be doable.

Just try getting accomidation on campus
