Poland's ambasador to Canada says Robert Dziekanski's mother deserves compensation for the distress that she has suffered since her son died after being tasered by mounties at Vancouver International Airport.

She has raised the possibility of a civil suit after the crown announced last week that no charges would be laid against the four mounties involved in the confrontation with her son.

What do you think? Should some form of compensation be paid and if so who should pay it?

Absolutely. She should be given generous compensation for the pain and suffering at the loss of her son. There should also be punitive damages.

The perpetrators should also be charged and locked up for a suitable length of time.

I wonder if a dead Canadian in Poland would warrant compensation? If the answer is yes, give her some money. If it's no, then no cash.

She might be surprised by how worthless Canadians really are. She wouldn't get much of a settlement. She might recover some burial costs but such cases aren't meant to be punitive. She would have to demonstrate that he was of monetary value to her and since he is gone she has lost income thereby. She would get a lot more if he were alive and needed assisted living. IMO.
