Mattel Inc. is recalling nearly nine million Chinese-made toys with small magnets or lead paint that could be dangerous to children.
The recall comes less than two weeks after the toymaker recalled nearly one million Chinese-made toys sold in the U.S. because of excessive amounts of lead in the paint.
So far, no injuries have been reported with any of the products involved in the recall.
There has been a recent string of recalled products from China, including defective tires and tainted toothpaste.

So how many years back is the recall going? As the US slides ever closer to recession China bashing has become sport of the year. I can't think that all of the Asian country's problems suddenly appeared in the last six months. A group in the US is organizing this increasingly clamorous campaign.

It's China bashing when the country has obviously been a major exporter to the US this decade and the negatives have only flooded in 2007. Something's up; that's obvious.

Except illegal workers, of course. But given the many sanctuary cities in the US, the former must be meeting "code."

Before they just manufactured junk that fell apart the first time you use it. Now they are producing stuff that can kill.

possibly it's not trouble in the US which is causing this but trouble in china. A friend of mine from china is of the belief that there will be civil war there within 10 years, due to total lack of support for the communist party.

Perhaps it's a matter of awareness.

Once peoples' pets start dying from poisoned pet food, it raises the issue and people start digging deeper. So they find these other issues with Chinese products.
How about the "herbal" sleeping aid that was found to contain a form of diazepam (a highly addictive antidepressant)? The Chinese factory had "reformulated" it product without informing the company it produces them for.

It's paranoia to think it's just an anti-China campaign. It's just a factor of China's movement to a market economy.

Hermann, given increasing discontent in both China and the US, we might see widespread civil unrest in both. If that happens looks like Putin could actually be in line for some real poutine!
