Oh no! Opus Dei are going to put the hit on Opie?

heh heh

That'll sure make Opie think twice before producing The Satanic Verses.

But, at least no one is screaming for his blood in the streets.

What a comparatively civil religion.

Wow, if they think the Da Vinci code is obscene... I should export some of my porn collection to Italy.

I certainly don't blame any Christian for being upset with Dan Brown's book and the subsequent movie. Brown has simply re-written Christian gospel to suit his story line. Real Bible historians have spent decades studying the life of Christ and Brown presents his fictional editing of the Bible as fact, though it is full of holes. While I'm not the devout Christian my mother was, it bothers me a little that a lot of people think Brown is some kind of biblical scholar and that his book is a result of a serious biblical study. It is not. It should be seen as what it is: A paperback pot boiler written solely to make a buck.

If the Moslem folk who appear prepared to kill people over cartoons are any "standard" of tolerance regading art...Unforgiven's remarks fall well short of fanatical outrage....

The whole god in heaven would make a great cartoon....A-la South Park...for instance...

Morgan Freeman and others (George Burns, Charleton Heston...etc.) have played god in movies and luckily the Christians didn't storm the temple of sins that is Hollywood....

The two legged upright walking naked ape is such a hoot...

Physically injuring or killing someone over an alleged or perceived religious insult, verbalised, written, or drawn, is insanity. Kind of makes every other response invisible.

That's the puzzling thing. Why such a drastic response to an obvious work of fiction? The church can't be that insecure, can they?

I think people need to remember that it was a piece of fiction. It was not a documentary.

Most books are written to make a buck. Dan Brown should not be faulted for that.

Personally, I enjoyed the book. I was not aware that it was against the law to say Jesus was something other than like the Catholics say he is.

The Catholic Church has gone through so many scandals in the last couple of centuries it is a wonder they are still around. Rome being the home (sort of) of the Catholic Church, is likely more sensitive to somebody re-writing the Good Book. I rather doubt that they would do anything drastic to Brown if he did somehow wander into Italy. Probably wouldn't behead anyone, unlike if you blundered into Mecca and were caught, after adding a few chapters to the Koran.
