A day after Saddam Hussein's execution, the U.S. military in Iraq reached a grim milestone after the Pentagon announced that at least 3,000 soldiers have died, according to Associated Press.

That's sad. And most were young men and women that would fit easily into any Canadian community or family. I'll bet they're missed. It must be almost unendurable for the families of these soldiers to witness the slow collapse of the US effort in Iraq. At some point, mission unaccomplished, its forces will leave.
Yes, there's an easy detraction. What about the loss of Iraqi lives? Point taken. But for now, on this day, with this damning number reached, my thoughts are with US forces families whose kids only did what they were asked to do and suffered for it.
