CRTC policy on Net neutrality.Forever Toothless

I suppose I shouldn't have been so surprised when the CRTC's newest policy on Net neutrality and the way it addresses Net throttling left me with a bad taste in my mouth. What did surprise me was a paper released this week by Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society that analyzed the performance of 30 countries vis a vis their development of Internet and broadband proliferation and distribution.

I'm not an anti-big business person but I can't help feeling that there are several key members of the CRTC who have guaranteed careers with Bell Aliant when or if they decide to leave public service.
The policy as it stands essentially says that the Canadian Telecom industry will police itself and do so keeping in mind several suggestions for conduct and behavior.
Suggestions? No, really that what it says.
The Internet is expanding at an incredible speed, the growing demands on 3G networks is expanding similarly, these two systems may be the barometer by which other developed countries rate Canada as a business and technology partner, the body that we have chosen to protect our rights and the rights of our children is making suggestions.
I'm sick of these watered down, toothless bits and pieces of legislation that fail to please all but a select few.

A public sector with some bite would implement effective regulations, but true responsible government would actually own the telecommunications system and allow companies to compete on it.

The CRTC is the enforcement arm of the CBC. Their job is to ensure we are watching enough bad Canadian programing. Without them the market would soon decide the winners and losers.

It is a shame that our country is willing to accept this garbage. The CBC should be thrown to the dustbin of history, where it belongs, and replaced with actual high quality TV networks


The CBC represents communism, left wing , Marxist - Leninist propaganda. It is pro liberal and pro union (the toxic pollution of society) and need to be abolished at any cost. I for one am willing to be without this brain washing garbage. ENOUGH with left wing special interests trying to destroy this country, as they have destroyed eastern Europe, Russia, and every other socialist system.

To those without a clue the CBC is trash for the rest of us who know its value
it is not. There is a great generalization eh? The truth is some programming
is better than others but since some want to generalize why not. As for being
Communist what tribe these protestations of communists and other stuff is sad.
It demeens the credibility of those repeating it like a mantra. Today for Christmas
I got a Cuban revolution cap with the star on the front and Cuba on the side.
My sister brought it back for me from Cuba. So if I were to wear it, it would surely

I ended up canceling my Netflix because it became unwatchable due to throttling by our service provider. The answer is to dump the provider and make a very public statement about it. For the record: COGECO CABLE AND INTERNET is screwing its customers by throttling sites like NETFLIX because using such pay sites infringes on their outdated Cable Packaging that has become obsolete. I dumped all of my cable three years ago and I am pretty sure a lot of people are doing the same.
