Harper's handling of gay slur MP is key
Prime Minister Stephen Harper must make it clear he rejects an anti-gay slur uttered by one of his MPs, if he doesn't want to see Conservative party support drop, says a pollster.
Nik Nanos, president of Nanos Research, told CTV's Question Period on Sunday that the Conservatives have retained support so far by shifting the focus away from social issues.
"Think about the last couple of years where the focus has been: On Afghanistan, the economy, a transparency in government and not a lot on social issues," he said. "That's why Canadians have been able to hold on and that's what makes (Lukiwski) a very important issue."
"The Prime Minister needs to deal with this issue directly and try to put it behind him as soon as possible," Nanos said. "I think the Prime Minister has to personally say, 'I don't accept these comments, I repudiate them and it's not part of the party or the government or where its mind is at on a lot of these issues right now."

Personally, I feel it is good that their lewd behavior is exposed to the country. It brings them down a couple of notches.

The remarks were mean-spirited and out of line,but what is really mean-spirited and out of line is the media and politicos not accepting the man's apology and continually attacking him. I'm surprised that the NDP and libs aren't asking for the death penalty to be reinstated so they can hang the guy. They want their pound of flesh and more. The man has been humiliated,his career and reputation have taken a severe beating but they want more. Maybe if he is tied to the speaker's chair and pigroasted by Siskay and Davies(with a strap-on) we can move on.

And if you think some gays don't make ignorant comments about straights, then you haven't drank with many. They have the ability, just like straights, to get loud and rude and have chips on their shoulders. Believe it or not. They're kinda human like that.
