SYDNEY, Australia (CP) - Prime Minister Stephen Harper says Elections Canada is subverting the will of Parliament by permitting Muslim women to wear veils and burkas while voting.
Harper, speaking Saturday in Sydney, Australia, after an international summit, said he "profoundly disagrees" with the ruling prompted by three byelections in Quebec on Sept. 17.
Harper says the House of Commons just voted in favour of having all Canadian voters provide visual identification at voting stations.
He says Elections Canada's ruling goes in an entirely different direction.
The prime minister, who has been battling with the arms-length elections regulator for years, said Elections Canada's role is to enforce the law, not to make new ones.

He is correct. Hopefully he will, upon return to Ottawa, make it a priority to set this country on the track it has was on prior to Trudeau and his multicult, politically correct socialists.

Why, just the other day in a local courthouse I happened to observe a woman in full length garb with nary but a one x three inch slit (in her headgear), pushing a baby in a stroller when suddenly, a shoe fell off the wee bugger.

My attempts to alert this nutter to quasi-impending doon upon her return to her social assisted housing unit where, I was assured by an officer of the court, she would endure a horredous beating at the hands of her husband for the loss of this invaluable training aid, was to no avail. As the poor sow couldn't see the ground upon which she walked let alone the tiny shoe resting upon it.

And elections Canada says these nutters and subjugated women can vote with covered, unidentified heads and faces?

I Think Not!

Don't you need a picture ID to vote? I can't remember but I thought I did in the last election...

That won't do much if you can't ID the person behind the veil.

I think the decision is rather silly, but at the same time I don't see it as much of an issue. If they had many ID's from various voters on the voter list, well then that would be an issue. But for the record I think they should have to prove their identity.

Last night I checked into Bill C-31 on the FedGov site. The amendment that rec'd royal accent last June stipulates 'visual identification' is now necessary to be able to vote.

The head of Elections Canada is trying to make new law, I always thought that Parliment made the laws. Someone changed the rules because it was profitable for them...?????

It saddens me so that I have to agree with "Steve", but, in this case, I do..............damn!!!!

I guess the most obscene, sleasy, photo-op, "Neo-KKKon" can be right the odd time.

But, this one's easy. Even for "Steve"

God bless his hoary little soul.

I've talked to Muslims about this and my 2 cents is....

show respect that a Muslim is not suppossed to show her face to a man...
Have a set up where she can show id and verify it by opening the thing up to a woman in a private setting, ..it could be made up of cardboard as well....
end of story....accomadate all voting citizens

All have agreed this is the way to go...

no it's not bending....It's the decent thing to do...
Look what about the Sundance...the forbidden dance...how did they feel when told this was ilegal....

Until religion is a thing of the past one must deal with the sensitivity towards it.....
Is it so bad to accomadate this deeply ingrained thing in these people...is it not better to allow them this right and let them see we care.....
does this mean sharia law is the next thing to enforce...no not at all....
We can accomadate and maintain our way of life quite easily....

How can extremists make a deal of what i put forth...i suspect even Steven and his band of vermin will get this right......

he hasn't said much on it ceptin we need to see who is voting...

Nowhere in the Quran is there any mention of the veil and the necessity of it for the subjugation of women...period.

It's a made up fiction to further the male domination of Muslim women.

And I challenge you to prove otherwise.

There ya go Doc, the almighty has spoken and you have been told

I agree with ya about verification and the put the veil, or the cardboard box, back on.

But, ya don't jist waltz in, burka on, and demand to vote with no verification........eh??

We gotta show respect, and it's a two way street, or should be, but ain't; not in Kanada eh, where we do the limbo bendin over so as not to offend anyone.

Take me for example. I'm just about as politically correct as one can get.....................but there be limits.

Well the veil goes way back further than Quran. For whatever reason they think it is necessary, if they feel it is religous or not....who are non Muslims non Arabs to make them change....They think it is a religous thing we should deal with them in respecting it on that level.....

Hell they think Jesus is a prophet, christians the son of God....

there is no place in our government to make decisions on wehter one is right or wrong......

From my point i say you gonna put it on the women, put it on the men...but who am i really to demand this of them at this point in time......

So are we to bowl over them and just say we know better.....Do we know better....We eat with knife and fork...asians a couple of sticks.....

I mean really it's a cultural thing....for some religous....either case lets hold out the red carpet and show them how big we really are....

Some of the same people who advocate keeping religion out of schools, don't mind bending over backwards for "religion" when it comes to voting........

Very puzzling

I agree...

But in the same light...this isn't the middle east, we have laws and rules that have been in place for quite sometime. Changing, modifying or otherwise manipulating them to no end will destroy what was built.
