Manning and Harris who is with the infamous Frazer Institute who dictates policy to the federal Conservative party want to give America the right to by all major Canadian companies.

Preston Manning in an interview with Don Newman who hosts a political show on CBC’s Newsworld said on Monday that Canada should take a restrictions on of Canadian companies including the resource sectors so they can be bought up by the Americans.

Preston Manning feels that if we take of the restrictions of foreign ownership and let our companies be bought up by the Americans then Canada will be in a better position to bargain with the US.

George Bush Jr. must be proud.

With thinking like this do you wonder why the Conservative party is losing support?

Stephen Harper has to understand this concept that “America Is Our Neighbor, America Is Not Our Nation”.

heh

Oligarchs in plunder mode. The big reason offered by the suits for the Alcoa takeover is that bigger is more competitive. This ain't no Adam Smith economy we're dealing with here. for now. They'll get back to propogating the myth of real market competition when it serves their purpose.

and somehow these companies, that head office in Canada, are Canadian, like we all own them?
We have no more control over a company if it is here or there or anywhere. Does petrocanada protect us from high gas prices?

This great and powerful bully you speak of to the south of us, has Sony owning their movie industry, buys so much product from Mexico, Canada and China.... There are not quite the bully you make them out to be..

All companies have only one interest, profit!! doesn't matter where that reside. Governements can only regulate what they sell within it's borders thats it!! Cna't make them stay, go add jobs etc etc.

So called foriegn ownership is rarely as direct as you may think. where one company is owned by another parent company under a european umbrella....It aint so black and white!!

If it were such a non-issue the Fraser Institute wouldn't be wasting ink on it. Quite frankly I don't care which set of rich jerks calls the shots but placing the nation WFO to the threat of capital flight at the operations level is nothing if not short-sighted.
