How does Harper compare with Bush in speech skills?

I say they're exact opposites. Harper has absolutely no chrisma with his speeches but he knows what he is talking about. On the other hand, Bush has a tone of emotion and doesn't know what he is talking about (bushism).

Which in your opinion is stronger at speech making? I choose Bush because he could influence minds with his chrisma while Harper looks more like a dull rock.

Bush, despite the protestations that he's stupid, is an excellent speaker and his debating record is much above average. I watched all the US debates prior to the last presidential election and it was clear John Kerry got spanked.
Harper's learning as he goes. He's at least got the sense to pace what he says. And he has learned to scan the crowd and try to make a connection with his audience.

I don't think Harper is a "wall" personality wise.

He seems like a likeable fella to me.

Type a guy you could sit down and have a drink with at a game..

Just my impression of him.

(and don't give me the "shaking his kids hand on his first day of school in Ottawa" bs... his son had told him he did not want him to hug him, because he was embarrased..)

And taking time out to drop the ceremonial puck at the 'national pond hockey' tournament does much to promote this positive view of Harper.

This while Dion continues to refuse to drop his French citizenhip unless he wins or something. He won't even truly committ to being a Canadian. :angry3:

That is such a load, a non-issue now. He is as much a Canadian as you or I. He's speant his life here, working here save for two years when he worked in France.

Theres lots of other things people can fault him for, dual citizenship is not one of them.

Back to the topic at hand, Bush though he doesn't use a large vocabulary, did well anyways. Now he comes off as a used car salesman. Same tired old lines. How many times can you sell someone a lemon before they get the drift of your act?

Harper speaks well. He speaks both our languages. I have to say Harper is the better speaker.

I totally disagree. Just like Martin had to give up any ties to his shipping company in order to avoid any conflict of interest (or air of a conflict) Dion should give up his French citizenship. How could we be sure of his convictions in any negotiations with France? (or even the UN since France is a permanent security council member.)

I agree Dion should revoke his French citizenship...

That IS a conflict of interest.

He can't. Only France can revoke it. All Dion can do is surrender it.

I don't see how it's a conflict of interest in itself anyway. Might even be a positive benefit in dealing with France on behalf of Canada, especially if another twit like deGaulle shows up and thinks he has a role in liberating Quebec from Canadian oppression.
