I've got a question for all you Conservatives.

Did you vote for the Conservatives for their platform or did you vote for them because you thought it was time to give someone else a turn?

A little bit of both. Now I'm pretty hard-core, having been a member of Reform, then the Canadian Alliance, then the Conservative Party.

There are certainly things in the platform I don't like, and I could easily turn away from the Conservatives, given a viable alternative.

To me, there is no viable alternative at this time.

Same thing, a bit of both, but mostly because I have been small and big C conservative all my life. I actually thought that Martin might be a liberal I could vote for, given that the CPC and Alliance were in a mess for a while, but Harper really impressed me with the way he brought both parties together, and the more I see how he operates as PM, the more I am in agreement that there is no other viable alternative right now. The NDP is a party I could, and would NEVER EVER voter for.

RE: I've got a question f

I voted for the Con party because I'm to stupid to know better, I have been a halfwit all my life and was educated with American TV and movies, and God told me several times that Paster Harper was a good Christian man come to save Canada from the Godless hoards of heathen Liberals and Socialists. Futher more I believe we should sell the entire country to the Americans because they can manage everything better than anybody else in the known universe.
And lastly but not leastly thay have an enormous spiffy military that's going to make the planet safe for the AmerCan way of life, whatever the phuck that is.
PS: God bless The United States of AmerCan.
PPS: It would take an act of god for me to vote any other way.

Sell Canada to the Americans? That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. They can't manage themselves. And anyone who thinks they can is an idiot.

How dare you talk to a new Conservative like that, would we be making deals and kissing thier arses if it wasn't true, we're accountable and responsible and religious, and we're going to save the world by bombing the godless hoards into free democratic proper consumer nations, even if it kills all of them. Thank God for Paster Steve, it's about time this country had a christian president with some American balls.

Man, I'm laughing too hard.

Darkbeaver, didn't it feel wonderful to let loose
with some red white and blue flame ?

True bitterness is almost emancipating, isn't it ?

You got us conservatives laughing, and when we're
laughing, we're not paying attention, so don't knife
us while we're laughing.

Have a heart.

Have a freaking heart.

There were aspects of the Tory platform I really liked; increased military spending, some constitutional reform, Quebec at UNESCO.

Primarily though I voted Tory for two reasons; One, I think they are the only party that can take on the separatists. If we want the BQ to go away there needs to be an alternative, the Tories. Also I thought the Grits attitude towards Quebec and constitutional policies had become to ideological and lacked the necessary ability to compromise on Quebecois issues. Secondly, the Grits were tired, rudderless and out of good ideas. The dearth in the Martin frontbench was evident by the fact that Anne MacLellan was deputy PM, Ujjal was health minister (Ujjal has lost all credibility in BC since he was premier and decied he was better off going to India than running the province or helping the NDP). It seemed the Liberals just fluttered from issue to issue like the wind moving the same direction of public opinion. This was personified by the famous "notwithstanding clause" elimination-debate fiasco. By the end the Grits had only one policy: To hold on to power as long as possible.
