NDP will put Liberals into minority status

Now I was watching Mike Duffy Live and a journalist and an NDP strategist have said that they are making ground upon the Liberals and are hoping now that they have shown the Liberals are a right-wing or central party, they are the only true leftist choice in Canada.

This is a good sign to become a powerful force in Canadian politics, and maybe become the government.

Also heard that the Liberal leadership candidates are trying to paint themselves center-left to get votes away from the NDP. Hopefully it wouldn't work.

And a conservative guy said that the NDP was not a middle party with center and right wing people. Which is wrong, look at Finder.

The NDP will never become more than what they are now nationally. Their number of seats may have fluctuated a bit but have not really increased in decades. Most Canadians are either just right of or just left of centre. The Liberals provide a better left of centre option which will attract "soft" socialists and these votes come at the expense of the NDP. The increase in the last election may just of been a punish the Liberals vote.

dream on.

depending on what happens with the Liberals party the NDP may maintain or possibly add a few seats, but I wouldent bet that with Layton as leader they will ever reach their previous seat total high. If Harper and the Tories are popular come next election and it is clear they will win a majority then you will see the NDP gain alot of votes as oppose to the Liberals losing more votes. And the opposite is true, if the conservatives look like they are done come election time, then you will see the Liberals take more NDP vote as insurance that a center/left party will take over.

RE: NDP will put Liberals

The NDP will never replace the Liberals.

This debate periodically pops up whenever the Liberals lose power, particularly from idealistic, young NDPers. It did so when Mulroney destroyed Turner and the NDP won 40 seats. You had Ed Broadbent musing that, yes, he wouldn't mind if the NDP replaced the Liberals. Needless to say, it didn't happen.

I hate to say it (I would like the New Democrats and the Grits to one day be the only two realistic parties, but whatever, lol), but the Liberal Party of Canada is not, at this point, in danger of replacement by the New Democratic Party of Canada. I just can't see that happening. They won over one hundred seats this election — that's not exactly a dead party talking.

The people in Ontario, and B.C. have long memories. The liberals and the Conservatives will continue to take turns being in power. When the Conservatives self destructed under Mulroney, the Liberals slipped a bit to the right, but the Liberals will again take over the center left position and the NDP will once again be the second runner-up. That is just my opinion.

Jersay, I wouldn't be arguing that Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, with over one hundred seats in the House of Commons, is "history". I don't think that the New Democratic Party of Canada is going to be forming a Government in the extremely near future. They're going to need to quadruple their seat count, first.

God some of you are boring... It's as if their was no will for this country to get out of this stagnant duality between Liberals and Conservatives... Just like the Republicans and Democrats in the US. You can't blame "idealists" to hope the NDP could actually gain strength. I don't believe this hope is sterile. If it is, I might as well vote YES at the next referendum...

s_lone, it's not that I don't think that the New Democratic Party of Canada isn't a force to be reckoned with (they determined the outcome of the previous Parliament of Canada — they had the power to save, and destroy, the Government of Canada, and they exercised both options through the course of the session). I am simply stating my opinion that I don't think it would be realistic to say that the New Democratics are going to be forming a Government (at least on their own) before, let's say, the Forty-second, or Forty-third Parliament of Canada (assuming things continue to look up for them).

And furthermore, s_lone, if you are going to attempt to deliver us some sort of ultimatum, with threats of separation due to our opinions on the place of the New Democratic Party, then go ahead and vote yes. I have no time for those kinds of immature games.

That could be so, if they dump the idiots currently leading them, move to the centre, and Hell freezes over.

If unbridled 3rd world immigration continues rather than a return to some kind of sane point system we will have a far left socialist government, just by numbers.
Oh Hi Fidel and Hugo. Any new pogroms comrades?

Well, that's why we had the Reform Party!
