The Honourable Bill Graham, the Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, issued a statement today, outlining his selection of Opposition critics.

Among the appointments are the Honourable Belinda Stronach as the Critic of Transport, the Honourable Scott Brison as the Critic of Environment, the Honourable Irwin Cotler as the Critic of Public Safety, and Bernard Patry as the Critic of La Francophonie.

The Hon. Bill Graham said:
"Canadians did not give the Conservatives a blank cheque to impose their policies on the country", added Mr. Graham. "Over the next months, we will be working to ensure that Mr. Harper and his government do not systematically dismantle and destroy the progress that Liberals made on many files - from the economy, to child care deals with the provinces, to the agreements with municipalities, to aboriginals and the environment with the Kelowna and Kyoto Accords. We have assigned to our critics' portfolios that reflect the issues of importance to Liberals and to Canadians.

"Mr. Harper has attempted to bury many national priorities by combining and dropping departments", Mr. Graham added. "As the Official Opposition we will work constructively with Parliament, while at the same time ensuring that the voices and values of all Canadians, not just Conservative Canadians, are heard in the House of Commons."
