Liberal Leader Paul Martin announced a series of new programs for the elderly and the disabled Friday, including a plan to give two months of EI benefits to people who take time off to care for sick or disabled relatives.
Mr. Martin's programs include a new registered disabilities savings plan, similar to an RRSP, to allow families of the disabled to make tax-deductible contributions to a savings fund.
The caregiver tax credit would also rise by 50 per cent, to $15,000.
He also offers $150 million over five years to help the disabled find work and another $135 million to help the disabled get post-secondary education.
