Why has Ralph chosen at this point in time to give every man, woman and child a 400 dollar cheque?

Let’s consider it is not his money he is giving to you, it is your money he is returning to you.. And, take careful note he is not touching the 75% of the profits taken away by the oil companies to do this little PR trick he hopes will elect the Conservatives.

Perhaps he has insights to 2 meter high snow banks this fall and a complete traffic shut down in the winter so he can get a majority with only 3% of the popular vote. Perhaps he has dreams of being selected by his party for premier again.

Nothing will change if you don’t get out voting and voicing your displeasure at every opportunity!

This Government is awash with money! So much so they do not have to plan or budget as would a less fortunate Government. Ralph sees his job as protecting the oil industry, his close and narrow knit of industrial friends and to hell with the population and any other type business in general. He sees himself as the saviour of the capitalist dream; Corporate rule; every thing private!
The Journal today reports private insurance by health care is on its way. A study is again being done by an unnamed insurance company. Klein is on record saying Albertan’s will not pay health care premiums. Don Mazankowski is on the board of directors of Great West Life and had been while putting forward his “studies”. What is to be named?
Do you feel better knowing your health care is being paid by tax dollars going to an insurance company even tough you are as a tax payer paying four times as much to get you the same coverage you enjoy but now at 4 times the price? Look at the proven fiasco of the hip replacement scheme in Calgary!

Just another way Ralph has of scuttling away your money to his private friends!

Consider:
2005 oil sands production total 367,000,000 bbls (projected)

Working on the 2005 lowball projection 367,000,000 bbls times 61.00 per BBL US is $22,300,000,000 US dollars total! Add exchange low now at 10% is $24,530,000,000 Canadian.(billions)

Now, add in conventional crude which is projected at 226,300,000 Bbls
At 61.00 US is $13,804,300,000 US times low exchange 10% is $15,184,730,000 Canadian.(billions)

Let’s “bottom line” it:
The value of crude plus the value of conventional for 2005 is $39,780,430,000 (39.8 billion dollars)
The value of $400 dollar buy a vote cheque is costing 1,200,000,000
Your advance on tax revenue 400

On the darker side.
You have been told Albertans have always paid for transmission lines on their utilitiy bills! This works great for Ralph and company when they sell all the power line transmission to a US company. Who do you complain to about rising costs?

You have been told you will have to pay for the power transmission line from McMurray south to the Edmonton Area built primarily so the tar sands could export their power to California. In Ralph’s thinking this is still your, the tax payer’s power line. Wow!

A twin power line from Genesee to Langdon has been announced. Since it’s conception the price of steel has quadrupled as China bought up all the scrap steel throughout the US and Canada. This will be “your” power line even tough the power plant that is planned for Brooks is going to supply Calgary with power.

Think here of export power. All these primary lines, trunk lines and lines to meet the export tie in points will be considered “taxpayer” pipelines for payment purpose and company pipelines for profit purpose. Just how great is your 400 dollars looking now? So much for the phantom Bow City generation station!

I personally think there is room here to index Alberta pensions and CPP to reflect the rising cost of living in this province an item studiously ignored by Ralph and company. The Federal government who also collects on the advance revenues also has the means to make these much needed adjustments.
It has been said we get the Government we deserve. I think that is correct.

Yes, someone is making the big bucks but it is sure not the general population.

(Please excuse the previous error in flipping zero’s. Several of our loyal readers brought it to my attention.)
