Haven't been to the forums for a while. Good to be back :)
It's been so long that I don't know if this has been discussed yet. My apologies if this is rehashing an old thread.

PM Paul Martin has unfortunately started to show his true colours. When asked early on about whether Canada should participate in "Star Wars" he said Canada wouldn't. Well slowly info has been leaking out that we might,in some form, maybe, etc. The proof - to me at least - that it will happen is his appointment of Frank McKenna to be the Canadian ambassador to the U.S.

McKenna is a member of the Carlyle Group. If you don't know ( I'm sure most of this savvy group do) they are comprised of war mongering retired politicians and thier associates. They invest in the war machine. They profit from the deaths of others. Here is a list of some of the group:

James Baker III, former United States Secretary of State under George H. W. Bush, Staff member under Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, Carlyle
Senior Counselor
* George H. W. Bush, former U.S. President, Senior Advisor to the Carlyle Asia Advisory Board from April 1998 to October 2003.
* Frank C. Carlucci, former United States Secretary of Defense from 1987 to 1989, chairman emeritus and currently strategic business advisor
* Richard Darman, former Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget under George H. W. Bush, Senior Advisor and Managing Director of
The Carlyle Group
* William Kennard, former chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, Carlyle's Managing Director in the Telecommunications & Media
Group
* Arthur Levitt, chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under President Bill Clinton, Carlyle Senior Advisor
* John Major, former British Prime Minister, Chairman, Carlyle Europe until May 2004, and other posts to the present
* Frank McKenna, Canadian ambassador (effective March 1, 2005) to the United States, former member of Carlyle's Canadian advisory board
* Mack McLarty, President of Kissinger McLarty Associates, Carlyle Senior Advisor
* Fidel Ramos, former president of the Philippines, Carlyle Asia Advisor Board Member until the board was disbanded in February 2004
* Caspar Weinberger, former Secretary of Defense
* Park Tae Joon, former prime minister of South Korea
* Colin Powell, United States Secretary of State
* Alice Albright, daughter of ex-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
* Karl Otto Pöhl, former president of the Bundesbank

The Saudi Arabian relatives of Osama bin Laden (not Osama bin Laden himself) were also minor investors in Carlyle until October 2001 when the family
sold its $2.02 million investment back to the firm in light of the public controversy surrounding the bin Laden family after September 11.
------------------------
This is a disgusting turn of events. Martin is a two faced liar. On one hand he goes to the U.N. and talks peace but behind the scenes he's warming his hands at the republican bonfire. Is there one politician in the world with any integrity? That's a rhetorical question.

I find it interesting that McKenna's membership on an advisory board to the Carlyle Group is such a big issue. If that's the case, then his membership on the boards of some literacy groups is also scary. Why isn't that an issue?

RE: Canada's new ambassad

Literacy groups don't, as a rule, have a reputation for building things that kill people, Ten Packs.

McKenna's involvement with the Carlyle Group and his much-lauded personal ties to the Bush family present a very clear possible conflict of interest. Will he choose what's best for Canada or best for his bank account? Will he favour policies that promote his business interests? Will he be influenced by his friendship with the Bush's?

Even more disturbing is that instead of picking a professional diplomat we've got a politician acting in the position instead. Is he even qualified? That bastard Cellucci that Bush foisted on us was certainly no diplomat. Is McKenna going to be as divisive and brutally arrogant as Cellucci when dealing with opposing views from the Democrats? Shouldn't we have have a professional dealing with the world's only super-power instead of an amateur?

But let’s stop and think for a minute. With Canadian/US relations a little on the icy side lately, wouldn't it be a good idea to give them a warm cozy feeling with the new Ambassador?

Also he should be representing Canada and not the Carlyle Group as that’s who is paying him to do the job and he’s reporting to the PM.

Since he is an insider into the kind of groups the Bush types belong, we could get the inside scoop on what is being planned and why. It would allow us to be more prepared when dealing with America.

Yes/no?

Excellent points, Jay. Do we know why he's no longer with the Carlyle group?
