According to Elections Canada, barely 25 percent of young electors (aged 18-24) exercised their right to vote in the 2000 federal election. When Prime Minister Paul Martin finally calls an election in 2004, will anyone care?

Watch Screw the Vote Sunday, May 23rd at 7:00 PM ET o*n CBC Newsworld, then have your say o*n the post-STV call in show!

Roy Whyte from the Canadian Democratic Movement will be part of the call in show. Call in and nail him with your questions!

I watched it.

I tried calling in, but I couldn't get through for the whole entire show. I sent an email, but it never got to them. Ah well.

Atleast the 'alternative' or 'fringe' parties like Canadian Action Party got some advertisement and word out about what they are really about.

Good work czardogs/roy!

Sorry cant log in here - but thanks for highighting the show and saying such nice things everyone!

While I was hoping to get to speak some more on some of the issues that were brought up they did do a decent job overall at exploring the issue of voter apathy with the under 40 crowd.

Though, I do have a bone to pick with the CBC - while they have done a real good job at looking at voter apathy, they are failing in bringing the total package of available parties to the fore.

They always seem to target the big four. Rightfully so as they demand the most attention and support from the people but nearly 10% of Canadians support us 'fringers'. Yep - making up words like George.

They need to have more on the CAP, Greens, Communists etc. The Greens are running the youngest field of candidates - yet hardly any mention of that. The CAP is the only party with a female leader - yet no mention. It was the communist party that succeeded in the supreme court with the election laws - yet no mention of that. I have spoken with them about this and they have promised to look at it - and I certainly hope they do as the other mainstream news outlets will be sure to ignore us on the edges and I expect no change from them on that ever.

So to head them off - some of us are planning a counter debate to the big four. After all democracy means everyone - not only those that have clawed or scammed their way to top.

Roy
