Majority of Canadians support Trudeau’s climate plan

A solid majority of Canadians support the key planks in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's energy and climate plan: approving a controversial oil pipeline and imposing a carbon tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a poll from Nanos Research Group says.

"What the research suggests is that the middle-of-the-road course the Liberals have taken on pipelines and climate is acceptable to a majority of Canadians," Nanos Research founder Nik Nanos said Thursday. "The exception is anywhere where you have a high attachment to the energy economy and a high level of sensitivity to anything that could undermine carbon energy."

Respondents living in the resource-producing prairie provinces wholeheartedly supported the Trans Mountain pipeline approval, but some 60 per cent of respondents disagreed – either strongly or somewhat – that Canada should proceed with carbon taxes if a Trump administration does not pursue climate action.

Support for a carbon levy was highest in Atlantic Canada and Quebec, at 74 per cent and 70 per cent respectively. All regions endorsed the Liberal decision to approve the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

Even in British Columbia, where opponents are launching lawsuits and threatening civil disobedience campaigns, 54 per cent of respondents supported or somewhat supported the pipeline approval.

They don't support sinking us into economic hell over it. Look at Ontario.

Whine's approval rating.

I support a lot of it but not because I agree he has the answers re climate change. I think it can generally be stated that it's safe to save resources and reduce pollution which the plan fits in with. I am also in favour of most things that save money, like recycling, walking instead of driving where possible. However we do have to give serious thought before reducing the number of good paying jobs. I'm in favour of that too, WHERE a job of equal pay can take it's place.

Canada has always been a country of compromise.

That's what's made us better than the US.

Nanos polled 1000 people in major urban centers. Hardly a true cross-section of Canadians. It is in fact purposely skewed sampling to benefit the desired result. Nothing new for the libtard lefties. I wouldn't be surprised to find Nanos has developed a list of people who generally answer in support of the left-wingnuts and call on them repeatedly to skew the results even more than the carefully worded questions designed to elicit the desired response. In the end it is just another poll that is exactly as accurate as all those polls predicting a Clinton landslide back in November.

All the AGW crowd has left is POLLS. The science has been so discredited, the evidence so fabricated and selective, that they are left to rely on the residue of 3 decades of fear mongering and myth making.

Last polls i saw is that most people don't think much period of the pseudo science.. they're too busy digging out their driveways from record snowfalls and in record cold.

Oh.. sorry, i forgot the the new spiel is that ALL extreme weather 'proves' AGW, under the aegis of Climate Change. Only total morons like our lamentable, incompetent PM can be reeled in by this nonsense.

Maybe the best plan is to forget about climate change and concentrate on conserving. "Waste not want not" :)

Northern Ontario,
I have been for reducing pollution since the first time I travelled south to Toronto in the early '60s, probably before Flossy was even born.... and I saw the difference in the condition of the air and the waterways.....

But this Global warming bullshïte, a fool's errand.....

See how they like the carbon tax when gas is $1.30L and inflation goes nuts thanks to logistics costs.

Flosshole was born about the same time catalytic converters became mandatory outside of California.

Did you replace your first spent catalytic converter or did you punch out the gas tank fillermajig so you could run cheaper leaded gas?

Where is it carved in stone that the Yanks don't compromise?

It's written in the socialist communist Nationalist handbook. The one Mentalflake prays with everyday before posting on CCC

It's also written in there that we Canadians are better people then Unites States people. Talk about being full of yourself.

I remember thinking like this once. What a hypocrite I was.

The first pick-up I had had a fan belt driven air pump that that blew air into the exhaust manifold....some kind of after burn thing a majig supposedly helped for pollution..
Truck would do only 21 MPG...
When I bypassed that pulley with a shorter belt, I found myself doing 24 to 25 MPG....
I figured....better gas mileage....less pollution!!

It's not a fake poll. What you have to do is read the article to realize the headline (which is from the G&M) is somewhat misleading as Mr Nanos points out.

"Nationally, 58 per cent of respondents either agreed or somewhat agreed "

"Mr. Nanos said the public support for carbon taxes may be strong now, but could drop once consumers start feeling the pinch."

And once the price increases kick which I think they do in Wynnetario Jan 1 for gas, that sentiment will drop.

But the headline fits in well with MF's trolling to get the excitable excited.
