Ralliers at Chris Alexander speech call for Alberta premier to be locked up

EDMONTON — The crowd chanted "lock her up" as Conservative leadership hopeful Chris Alexander spoke about Alberta Premier Rachel Notley's energy policy at an Edmonton rally.

As they chanted the refrain that became popular during president-elect Donald Trump's campaign, Alexander smiled, and appeared to gesture in time with the chant, nodding along.

The incident happened at an anti-carbon tax rally at the Alberta legislature on Saturday.

The rally was organized by Rebel Media, an online news and right-wing opinion outlet, and video of the incident was posted on Twitter by the website's Alberta bureau chief Sheila Gunn Reid.

Alexander, a former immigration minister, says he thinks the chant is "wrong," and tried to change the refrain to "vote her out," which he says isn't picked up by the video.

He says that once people finished chanting, he went on to talk about what voters can do at the ballot box.

But he says he didn't tell the crowd to stop because politicians need to listen to what voters have to say.

Geezz that's original. I've never heard the chant 'lock her up' before. I wonder who thought that up.......?

Con gong show at the Legislature had plenty to make Albertans wonder about their opposition parties

Just say no to a carbon tax? Two men appeared with professional looking signs reading “Carbon Tax = $odomy!” and “Call it what it is – $odomy!”

Someone else held up a sign saying “Don’t let gay activists in schools.” Other anonymous souls handed out leaflets claiming “unnecessary immigration is destroying Canada.”

Neal Hancock, the former thespian and political science student best known in his persona as Bernard the Roughneck, counselled members of the crowd to enlist hackers to attack the Alberta government’s computers – which sure sounds suspiciously like counselling a crime.

“Do you guys have any friends who are conservatives who are computer hackers? We need their help! I know there’s a bunch of stuff they could dig up on what’s going on in that building,” said Mr. Hancock, who quit his oil rig job in late October, in recordings of the event.

Opposition Leader Brian Jean stood by silently while Mr. Hancock offered this advice. Edmonton Griesbach Conservative MP Kerry Diotte posed for a photo with Mr. Hancock. Apparently neither of these responsibly employed gentlemen felt the need to say, “Now, just a minute there, young feller!”

Chris Alexander, former Harper Government immigration minister best known for his “barbaric cultural practices” snitch line proposal during the last federal election and now a candidate to replace Stephen Harper as leader of the federal Conservatives, stood by smirking and beating time as the crowd chanted about Premier Notley, with startling lack of originality, “Lock her up! Lock her up!”

$odomy: " the process of stuffing money in one's bum "

An act this crowd was probably contemplating.

So you'll be voting Wild Rose then? If you think the PCs have been bad for 41 years, clearly the WR are the only reasonable alternative.

Reasonable? In what sense? Most of the policies advocated by that party are just a repeat of previously failed PC policies.

Considering the province is one of the biggest spenders on programs and has been systematically centralizing power in Edmonton, they can hardly be considered right of center. Environmentally, they have promoted far stricter regulations then, say, Saskatistan which was ruled by the NDP for 25 years.

If you don't like the direction Alberta was going, the smart thing to do would be to vote Wild Rose. If you just don't like the PC's then I guess whatever floats your boat.
