Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet colleagues signed off on two major pipelines today, projects that will pump nearly a million more barrels of oil a day from Alberta's oilsands to global markets, if they are constructed.

Ottawa gave the green light to Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline and Enbridge's Line 3, while it rejected Northern Gateway.

Trudeau is speaking with reporters and taking questions in Ottawa. CBCNews.ca is carrying the press conference live.

Later, Trudeau will meet privately with Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.

Notley is expected to speak with reporters on Parliament Hill at 6:30 p.m. ET.

This is exactly what Trudeau promised.

It perfectly highlights the balance on the economy and the environment and how he needed to fulfill one to get the other. And it contrasts very well with Harper's failure for ignoring one and failing the other.


This is as slam dunk as you can get brother.

No one wants to further pollute our land, but we need jobs man and we truly need to depend much less on the USA. This will do it, if it's not a ruse by JT to kill Northern Gateway in favour of a scam. If the Liberals think they can put a veil over Canadians eyes with a delayed ruse, they are dumber than they look. They need to start this project ASAP and not wait until the next election, or they will be out on their asX.
