Time to leapfrog the U.S.

The Government of Canada accelerates investments in clean electricity

The Government of Canada will support this transition by using the Canada Infrastructure Bank to finance projects such as commercially viable clean energy and modern electricity systems between provinces and territories. Canada will attract global investments that grow the economy and create good middle-class jobs by providing investor certainty and a clear signal to the market that Canada is a leader in clean energy.

The regulatory actions announced today will put Canada on a path to move from 80 percent towards 90 percent non-emitting sources by 2030. Clean electricity will power cars, businesses, and homes across the country. By building a smart, integrated, clean-electricity system, we will deliver reliable and affordable power where it is needed.

What i dont understand is why Canada is going "full retard" in its approach to emissions control. Like we are 2% of the worlds total emmisions but we approach the issue like we produce 20%.

What can we expect to replace the coal industry when it contributes 5.2 billion dollars to our GDP?

It's because we have super cheap NG out the yin yang and they intend on utilizing it for power.

We can expect to smile smugly but broke to China and India as we struggle for out last breaths of carbon

...as if
Haven't you heard? Canadian NG is going to save Asia from themselves. TV said so.

And yet you claimed that China was kicking our a$$ when it came to clean energy, you know, despite the FACT they still derive 73% of their power from coal.
And once again, unless you have other base load sources of generation, wind and solar alone aren't good enough to power a province. And if you have a problem with fracking, then geo-thermal power is out as well. New hydroelectric dam projects would also be environmentally destructive.
If Canada really wants to lead in this area then we need to jump on the three currently available technologies for breaking down CO2 into other usable compounds and elements. And since at least 2 of those technologies are highly energy intensive, both Ontario and Quebec with their virtually emissions-free power generation are in a great position to take advantage of that opportunity.

If the power wasn't so f-cking overpriced ON could be growing food year round instead of subsidizing NE US industry.
