Proving once again, all conservative parties are shackled by social conservativism.

Ontario PC leader says he would scrap Liberal changes to sex-ed curriculum

Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown is promising to scrap the Liberals' sex-ed curriculum if his party forms government after the 2018 election.

In a letter distributed this week — with days to go before a byelection in the east Toronto riding of Scarborough-Rouge River – Brown wrote that "a PC government would scrap the controversial changes to sex-ed introduced by Premier (Kathleen) Wynne and develop a new curriculum after thoughtful and full consultation with parents."

The curriculum was updated last year, for the first time since 1998, to include same-sex relationships, and the dangers of online bullying and sexting.

But parts of the curriculum were controversial for some parents, who complained that the government should have consulted them more. Other were angered by mentions of same-sex relationships, gender identity and masturbation.

The changes prompted some parents to protest and even pull their children from public school, saying the new program is not appropriate for school-aged children and does not align with their values.

That is not really back to the stone age. The changes were rather unnecessary at least at the grade levels Ms. Wynne chose. Now the people of Ontario in the next election can decide if they like her changes or not. I don't recall the changes mentioned in her campaign last time.

The changes were much needed and we already see our kids are more cognizant of differences and respectful.

They need to stick to the economy because broadcasting social conservatism only hurts their brand.

School should start when the child is 12 and there were be grades taken per year and at grade 7 the students would spend an hour or so teaching a class in the 1-6 grade group. (stress test) 7-12 would be 15-18 years, 20 if you are taking a trade where you graduate as the 4th year apprentice. 0-12 would be considered to be the 'party hearty' years.

Never too young to start the brainwashing...
You see it with kids .....
And never too old to shed any you got over the years, for some people anyway. The best brainwashing has the victim believing they have never been brainwashed as they are too smart for that to happen.

I think at this juncture it is best to remove sex-ed from the school curriculum entirely and leave it to the parents. The liberals want to brainwash kids into a world where there is no gender or boundaries or any sense of traditional normalcy. I'm fine if they want to instill such drivel in their own kids but it should not be forced onto families with different moral standards.

I agree with scientific sexual education, both physiological (e.g. reproductive organs, pregnancy, hormones, STD's) and psychological (e.g. sex addiction and it's causes such as childhood trauma, and its remedies and its risks such as sexual assault and other compulsive sexual behaviours). It should include a social component too such as how to recognise the signs of sexual coersion in oneself or others and how to protect oneself against it.

We also need to make people aware that sexual assault is not limited to only men-on-women or adult-on-child assaults but that women-ob-men assaults are frequent too, and that it does not require physical force but that psycholigical coercion or pressure can harm a person too.

Better ignorant kids who risk getting an STD or pregnant than kids learning about things their parents find uncomfortable to not only answer, but I bet the kids would be terrified to ask them.

Brown is trying to appease the Muslim community in the GTA who still see sex as a taboo. I don't think him mailing out this letter to a riding with many religious immigrants on the eve of a by-election is any coincidence.

And when' did we last hear of this issue since it went through a whole school year? Everyone seemed to survive without any trauma.

If you open the HP link you will see exactly what is taught at each grade. And the other CC links will show you different opinions on the subject.

Ontario released a new 2015 Health and Physical Education Curriculum — the first update to the curriculum in 17 years — that will be implemented in schools across the province in September.

The new curriculum will cover topics like sexting, cyber-bullying, consent, and for the first time, six gender identities instead of just two. Students will also to continue to learn about aspects of the reproductive system and sexual health issues throughout the years of elementary and secondary school.

Following Monday's release, some were quick point out significant changes for students in Grade 1. Starting in September, students in that age group will learn the correct names of their body parts, including the terms ***** and ******. Some of the opponents believe teaching kids about these proper terms, as well as same-sex marriage, **** sex, and oral sex should not be part of the curriculum.

To make things a lot more clear — and to
move away from the many myths surrounding these changes — we've broken down exactly what kids will learn in each grade. Besides developing areas in sexual health, students will also learn about safety, respectful behaviours and healthy living overall.

conservatives, the pro ignorance party.

Seriously.

May they always be no more than 35% of the population.

Stupid.

The educational system is critical for kids learning about gender roles and diversity.

The stuff they teach to 12+ I don't really have an issue with. But I think grade 2 & 3 are too young to properly process the opinions they are feeding them. And I think the prior curriculum had the 12+ stuff covered.

You and the other libtards don't care about the kids other than to manipulate their minds into compliance with your outrageous and unnatural beliefs. It is offensive on 2 levels...that the government wishes to usurp the parental responsibility and rights to educate their children as they see fit and also that parents willing give up this right and responsibility to a bunch of morons more concerned with creating a compliant, non-thinking population than teaching reading, writing and arithmetic.
