100% Correct.

Good to see a federal minister admit this.

Carbon tax must increase to be effective, says federal environment minister

Catherine McKenna says a tax on carbon has to increase to be effective, but the federal environment minister stopped short of any direct criticism in response to B.C.'s new climate change plan.

The new provincial climate change plan, released Friday, introduces 21 actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but fails to raise the carbon tax— something critics have called "a significant blow to B.C.'s climate plan."

Yesterday, provincial Environment Minister Mary Polak defended the lack of an increase, saying that B.C. was already so far ahead of everyone else when it came to carbon pricing and increasing it further would harm the economy.

Today, federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna told CBC's The Early Edition that carbon taxes have to go up in order to be effective.

"With carbon pricing, it has to increase over time or it just doesn't have the effect that is needed. It just doesn't create the incentive."

Effective in what sense? Effective to what end result? Weird that isn't mentioned.
Is it an accident or oversight that, "a tax on carbon has to increase to be effective"
is mentioned over & over above, but no mention as to what it is effective in doing?

You need to regularly increase a price on carbon in order to maintain carbon reductions.

It's why BC's progress is slowing down.

It's like, "Sit Ubu sit! Sit Ubu sit! Sit Ubu sit! Sit Ubu sit! Sit Ubu sit! Sit Ubu sit"

Eventually Ubu is going to sit just so you shut up already. I guess that's effective.
The O.P. doesn't state what the goal is regarding being effective though beyond
increasing taxes.

Increase it to what point? 90% of total revenue? 120% of total revenue? You see we as a population already give about 70% of every earned dollar to some level of government in various taxes and fees so just how much more do you want it to go up? Ever-increasing taxation only leads to 1 thing and that is violent revolt. Is that the final goal? Foster an eventual blood-in-the-streets rebellion so as to impose complete martial law and decimate the population through starvation and state-sponsored massacres? That is where this all looks to be leading if you ask me.

They hope the guilt trip will help with the acceptance of the new tax.

Killing the economy? Raising money to waste on foreign countries? Increase pay and perks for useless politicians?

Carbon pricing is the way to reduce carbon emissions.

BC already does it.

Just because BC did something stupid to buy votes from really stupid people doesn't mean the feds have to do the same. THe really stupid people already voted for them.

Note that the BC government did not raise carbon taxes because they are making us noncompetitive.

BC did well.

They reduced their carbon emissions and they have the best economy in the country.

You like Liberal mathematics heh?
Trudeau gets a resounding majority in 2015 with 39.5% of the vote....

Harper barely squeezed through in 2011 with 39.6 % of the vote......

The results on election day aren't the only thing that matters.

This is why Harper had no legacy and Trudeau will have an easy second majority.
