"A dangerous offender who escaped while on day leave at a central Alberta powwow earlier this month is back in custody."

DAYSLAND, Alta. - A dangerous offender who escaped while on day leave at a central Alberta powwow earlier this month is back in custody.

RCMP say Darrell Peter Moosomin was arrested without incident Sunday evening after they got a tip about a man answering Moosomin's description who was hitchhiking on Highway 13 near Daysland, southeast of Edmonton.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for the 54-year-old man after he disappeared Aug. 13 from an escort while attending the Samson Powwow.

Moosomin is an inmate at the Pe Sakastew Centre minimum-security prison in Maskwacis, south of Edmonton.

He is serving an indeterminate sentence for various offences, including sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon dating back to 1995.

The guy had 74 previous convictions, some for serious crimes such as rape, but they let him out on a day pass accompanied only by a Native "Elder"!

No wonder he walked away.

The Liberals replaced it with rehabilitation first, followed by the similarly utopian delusion 'affirmative' action.

Public safety? It's still on the list. Just look under token.
