Should online pornography and personal advertisements seeking out sexual partners be opt-in only?

This is the case in the UK right now:

UK to automatically filter 'adult' internet content | ZDNet

And there is increasing talk of it in the US and Canada.

Though the main target is children, I imagine that many sex addicts would appreciate this too.

As for censorship, I do not consider censorship to be necessarily bad. For example, is it reasonable to censor radical Islamist websites? There is much talk of it in the UK. Maybe the UK goes too far in censorship, I don't know. But it seems to me that reasonable censorhip is, well, reasonable.

Besides, in the case of the UK making internet porn opt-in only, any adult can opt in.

Your thoughts on this?

One could consider the prevalence and accessibility of online pornography a public mental health problem.

We should not validate or provide an outlet for pedophiles/ and or abusers to pleasure themselves by using children. Since no one can 100% stop kids from being on line, sexual content opt-in or out is not enough.

To avoid confusion, child pornography is outright banned in every country as far as I know. What I'm talking about here is for internet providers to block legal pornography by default and so require a subscriber who can prove that he is an adult to opt in if he wants access to it.

It's funny how proposing opt-in porn makes us a Nanny state, but woe to anyone who proposes open borders. Suddenly everyone fears the boogy men.

Automatic censorship unless you opt in for more access rights.

That sounds a bit leftarded

Nope. You could always choose to not watch it.

I don't like cooking shows so I don't watch them.

If it bothers you, then give a damn and learn to use parental controls. I'll give you a hint, Microsoft has a free solution.

BTW, my 11 yr old uses a computer in the living not his bedroom. I can a sure you that he likes mine craft and not cooking shows.
