Alberta premier meeting with PM during weekend mountain retreat

Premier Rachel Notley has been invited to address the federal cabinet and meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a retreat in Alberta this weekend.

Notley's spokeswoman Cheryl Oates said the premier plans to talk to Trudeau about the need for a pipeline to the coast and Edmonton's exclusion from recent EI changes.

The federal cabinet is holding their three-day retreat in Kananaskis Country, at a mountain resort 85 km west of Calgary.

Notley will speak to the media about her meeting with the prime minister Sunday evening.

She last met with Trudeau when he visited the Alberta legislature in early February.

Notley has been vocal in opposing the Edmonton region's exclusion from expanded EI benefits while they were provided for the rest of Alberta.

I can't imagine that simply because Notley has changed her tune on pipelines that Trudeau will be swayed from whatever his position is on the topic.

A meet and greet over the weekend is basically useless

He's already stabbing the environmentalists in the back behind the scenes. Watch and see. Matter of time.

My belief is that getting oil to intl markets has to happen and the feds know this. I am baffled that Harper didn't get this accomplished to be honest.

As far as Trudeau is concerned, it is a no-brainer if he is interested in generating the massive revenues from energy.. What he decides to do with that cash is something different, but the crash of the commodity price has made it perfectly clear that not doing anything with the resource costs them a ton of cash

It doesn't need to happen.

It just makes life easier for the next 20 years.

As an Albertan, I am not all that comfortable with all the time that Justine is spending in my province..... His close proximity is really dragging down the property values

It's a love-in for sure! Socialist Alberta ...Socialist Ottawa ...

I agree. I think that young Mr. Trudeau is running out of catch phrases and cliche photo-ops and knows that we need an economic boost. I also think he will work toward getting it done, much to Flossy's chagrin, it's just a matter of time.

I agree regarding Harper. I was very disappointed with how his government treated our vets and he made some extremely poor choices in the last year of his administration.
