over $100k more than Harper, Mulcair

OTTAWA — Elizabeth May spent more than any other federal party leader to secure her seat in last October’s election.

Financial reports filed with Elections Canada show the Green leader spent almost $230,000 to win her British Columbia riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands.

May’s riding association raised roughly $220,000 to pay for May’s campaign; she was the only Green candidate to win a seat in the Oct. 19 vote.

Justin Trudeau, who led his Liberals to victory, spent just over $183,000 to hang onto his Montreal riding of Papineau.

His riding association contributed $175,000 to Trudeau’s campaign while the Liberal party kicked in almost $33,000.

Stephen Harper, whose Conservative government was defeated, spent just over $117,000 to easily win his Calgary Heritage riding.

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair spent the least: less than $105,000 to hold his Montreal riding of Outremont.

The totals for each leader include expenses that were subject to campaign spending limits plus other reportable expenses which fell outside the cap.

Ellimay really didn't have to either. Just she doesn't care about her carbon footprint and as leader of the lunatic fringe party cannot take BCFerries like the common taxpayer.

Elizabeth May, properly prepared and fried with fresh shallots and cilantro, would make the perfect appetizer for the next Green party convention or 'Save the Whales' gathering.

With new and innovative ways to prepare our political leaders, they can be enjoyed by all conventioneers on the lower mainland or Vancouver Island.

Paid for by the provincial NDP party of Lower Scandia

I'm not quite sure what the point of this thread is- we're talking numbers in the low thousands...............our real problems measure in the multi $billions!

There are several directions where this thread can go.

The first is Lizzie May's nutty, spendthrift ways. This coming from someone who wants to save us from ourselves, senseless technology, and bad spending.

The second is simply a comparison of the spending habits of the party leaders in their quest to be re-elected.

The third? She's batsh!t crazy!

The problem is not $200k....it's $200k x 300+ MPs plus all the gold-plated benefits and lifetime pensions and expense accounts for $15 glasses of oj or $35 breakfasts. It all adds up to many millions and those racking up the bills don't care....they feel entitled to squander our tax dollars. That's the real problem.

If you can't manage thousands, you can't manage billions.

Yes and No..........................Is the average run of the mill M.P. spending anywhere near as much as the leaders?

Getting elected doesn't mean jacksh-t. Miss Teen Canada wins by votes. Would you trust Miss Teen Canada with your Visa card and ATM card?

Does it matter? They all get the big salary and pension and expense account. They all get tax dollars to run a campaign. Some major changes are needed and starting by making all the candidates run on their own dime or personal donations collected within their riding without any reimbursement from tax dollars would be a good start.

Yeah, I'm not an expert on the matter, Nick, but I think there is a price to pay for good Government & it is fairly small when compared to the $29.4 billion that was promised to be no more than $10 billion. To be realistic how many jobs on infrastructure are going materialize in the individual neighbourhoods? Four or five if we're lucky, for a few months? He probably should have stuck to the $10 billion and let private enterprize create the jobs.

As soon as we ever get a good govt I won't mind paying the price so much.
