Canadian Forces members are being moved out of their accommodations to make room for Syrian refugees, an internal document reveals.

Residents of six different buildings at CFB Kingston were told in a letter on Friday they would need to move their personal effects on Monday to make way for incoming refugees.

The defence department said in an official statement last week that, "from a CAF perspective, our intent is to use vacant spaces."

However, after at least one base assessed its housing stock, it was necessary to revise the plan.

"Part of our planning was looking at bed spaces on the base," Capt. Jennifer Faubert said in a phone interview. "From that planning we determined that some people would need to be moved to accommodate the plan."

The members include those visiting the base for a course, ones awaiting posting as well as soldiers who call the single quarters on base their home, Faubert explained.

Some CAF members will be "required to move from a single room to a quad occupancy room," the document reads.

Members are responsible for moving their own belongings during their personal time, unless their chain of command specifically allows them to do the move during working hours.

Relocated members who were paying for a single residency will see their rates adjusted to reflect their new accommodations.

Military bases have been preparing to receive the influx of 25,000 Syrian refugees, 10,000 of which are expected to arrive by the end of the year.

Already covered in one of the many other threads.

25K people usually take some space so not surprising some shuffling needs to happen.

Just piddle all over the Military again! Where are all the public who so desperately want to aid the refugees? The Calgary Mayor was being a real mouth piece about bringing them in so I asked him to open his doors to his own house to house, feed and educate these people. I also asked a few others to do the same. Funny how people quickly shut their opinions up.

What really adds credibility to your message is if you take in a couple yourself. :)
