Ontario appears to have rejected the advice of its expert advisers and will make taxpayer-funded in-vitro fertilization treatment available to everyone — regardless of age or other factors — suggests a description of the new program obtained by the National Post.

The policy will soon be the only of its kind in Canada and likely watched closely by other provinces facing pressure also to finance IVF, which involves creating embryos in a lab, then inserting them in the patient’s womb.

Most people now pay for the treatment themselves, about $10,000 a round.

keep those special couples voting eh?

but seriously folks, more fukkin' waste here:

Why is IVF a waste Loc?

that's not what it said. did you read the article?

"Sources say the advisory committee appointed by Ontario had urged anyone over 42 or morbidly obese be excluded from government-subsidized in-vitro, given statistics showing their chances of getting pregnant are slim".

but no...mr. wynne knows better.

Because there are other medical services/procedures that have been cut over the years that are more important to one's actual state of health!!

Why not have both?

IVF shouldn't be exclusive to certain segments just because you want to save $1.

They should just find everything. Money appears to not be a concern here.

Of course money is not a problem now that Ontario is a have n ot province. Like Quebec they just spend and the rest of the country with more astute governments pays most of the bill. The rest they borrow so future generations can pay.

Why not have both?

It shouldn't be funded period. There are more than enough people in the world. If you want a bunch of brats go adopt a few. It is NOT the taxpayers problem if someone can't get pregnant.

That's why we have abortions.

And yes we recognize that you just don't want to pay for things you don't like.

Don't *****foot around the truth.

Unfortunately so far abortions cannot be made retroactive. If they could there would be far fewer politicians and lawyers in the world.
IVF, like sex changes is a totally unnecessary medical procedure. There is absolutely no reason why someone has to get pregnant. There are kids that need homes and there are people that want kids so match them up.
There are also many medical procedures and tests that are required and do not qualify for funding. So lets put the money to the best use.

WTH? Are they nuts? Since when is IVF a necessary procedure?
Erm, BTW, anyone with any brains would look for other places to get IVF or whatever method if they want to get pregnant anyways. Ireland (the REAL one that isn't part of the UK) is like 600 or 800£ EI. One could have a holiday in beautiful Connemara or somewhere over there for the 800£ and still have money left over from the $10K when they got back to Canada.

Mr Wynne and like cohorts can use turkey basters if a man isn't good enough to father babies. It's about time men sold spunk at a premium.

Hey, what woman wouldn't want a blond, blue eyed, tall, broad shouldered genius to seed their loins?

I'd skeet in a jar for $20K
