Britain is 9th; Germany 12th; and USA (a country the Americans call "The Land of the Free") is 20th.

Every time I travelled down there I felt pretty "free"! How many times have you visited the U.S.? Or would they have you? :)

It is not about freedom of movement its about the erosion of freedoms
with legislation such as C-51
It is about institutions being transparent and they are not including the
PM's office itself.
Such things are minor distraction however in the grand scheme of things.
We are not subjected to the corruption of many other countries and that
is not due to opposition or government it is the courts and the constitution
applications of what is legal.

Yet with all the loss of freedom to become a terrorist, we are still #6.

I think the point of the actual list is to show how most countries have declined in the index from last year. Canada is #6 but we did fall a small point (not sure what the scale is) but still #6 as the #5 county fell about the same.

I would think freedom of movement is fairly limited there. :)

It's the Fraser Institute. Their concept of "human freedom" is different. Remember in the 90s when Jean Chretien used to deflect criticism saying Canada was ranked the best place to live in the world, or something like that? Or sometimes during the Cold War the USSR would deflect criticism by pointing out that in the US they still lynched black people. Now the Fraser Institute, a part of the Conservative ideological and fundraising matrix, just handed China the perfect shield. According to friends of our prime minister, Hong Kong is a bastion of human freedom.

C51 doesn't erode any freedoms. Unless you are planning on becoming a terrorist.

Who here has had their freedoms eroded by the Harper government?
