TransCanada’s proposed Energy East Pipeline Project has received the support of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities.

Representing 296 rural municipal governments in Saskatchewan, the SARM board voted at its April 2015 board of directors meeting to voice it support.

“We believe the rewards that would flow from the Energy East Pipeline far outweigh the risks,” SARM president Ray Orb said in a release. “More than that, we believe the greatest risk we face comes from the prospect of not building the pipeline.”

The Conference Board of Canada has estimated that he Energy East Pipeline Project will support more than 750 full-time direct and spin-off jobs in the province during its first few years alone.

The pipeline will inject $350 million in tax revenue during its construction and the first 20 years in operation, all the while freeing up the rail system for agricultural products, SARM noted in a press release on Monday.
