Justin Trudeau plan taxes top 1% to cut taxes, boost benefits for middle class

Liberal leader would scrap Conservatives' income-splitting credit to boost monthly child benefit

Justin Trudeau has unveiled the Liberal alternative to the Harper government's economic plan: hike taxes for the wealthiest one per cent to pay for more generous child benefits and an across-the-board income tax cut for the middle class.

Under the Liberal proposal announced Monday:

- The 22-per-cent tax rate for anyone with a taxable annual income between $44,701 and $89,401 would be cut to 20.5 per cent.

- A new tax bracket of 33 per cent would be imposed on those with taxable incomes over $200,000 a year. The current top bracket of 29 per cent would continue to apply to those earning between $138,586 and $200,000.

A Trudeau government would also scrap the Harper government's newly enriched universal child care benefit and roll together two other existing child benefits into a single, more generous, monthly, tax-free "Canada child benefit."

so he plans on cutting 1 program. And performing a major overhaul on 2 other programs so he can promise his own program.

I don't like it. No one should be allowed to pull the plug on my heat and lights until the solar panels have been working for atleast a year, if you know what i mean.

I DON'T trust wrecking ball politicians like Justin Trudeau.

Increasing taxes on the rich is one thing but I am more interested in what he
intends to spend money on period. I think everyone should pay their share
but I am not sure what his overall plan is. I hope he scraps income splitting
it helps wealthy senior not all seniors and is not a benefit to most.
This does not mean I will vote for him either. All I know is I won't vote for Harper.
Mulcair or Trudeau that is the question.
Tomorrow night will give a glimpse on the new world should the NDP win in Alberta.
That is by no means a given but many are more worried about the wildrose than the
NDP for social reasons.

4% more for this over $200k equates to a minimum of an addional $8k tax bill.

This is a show stopper!!

Liberal donations will dry up real quick.

It's the wealthy that creat the jobs who in turn pay the tax.

Justin's first policy announcement and he has already screwed it up.
In addition he's $2 billion short in his clacs!!

You wonder why this dumbo would try to compete with Harper on financial/tax issues.

He should stick to things he can pronounce, like his grass/pot gig!!

JT doesn't have an overall plan. He will piece together stuff to try to make himself look palatable. His first policy is not 'let me do something' but let me not do something the other guy has already done. Not a good start if you are a Lieberal fan.
