Reservists will soon receive more benefits if they're injured in the line of duty, on par with the regular force, the veterans affairs minister said Friday.

Starting next month, injured veteran reservists and the families of fallen part-time soldiers will be paid the same amount of benefits as full-time Canadian Armed Forces members, Erin O'Toole said at an announcement in Halifax.

The minimum amount of support will be more than $42,000 annually, but as the benefit is rank-based it could be more for some vets, he said.

"It's an increase and it's about respect," O'Toole said.

"All of Canada's veterans deserve the right to be treated with care, compassion and respect."
