Only hours before Assembly of First Nations regional chief Jody Wilson-Raybould became a Liberal candidate for the 2015 federal election, an Ontario chief drafted a complaint criticizing her decision to keep her job until after the election.
“There are very obvious fears that the AFN [Assembly of First Nations] mandate is being affected by partisan influence and that fiscal resources are funding a formally announced candidate,” wrote Isadore Day, chief of the 1,300-member Serpent River First Nation, in a two-page letter to AFN National Chief Ghislain Picard.
Chief Day also accused Ms. Wilson-Raybould of “clear bias” and “conflict of interest” and demanded “close examination and if necessary, corrective measures.”
She has previously co-chaired the Liberals’ biennial policy conference in Montreal, and was invited by Liberal leader Justin Trudeau to stand as a star candidate in Vancouver.
Last Thursday, Ms. Wilson-Raybould was acclaimed to run for the Liberals in the newly created riding of Vancouver-Granville.
