Will Prostitution in effect be illegal?

The provisions against keeping a bawdy house have been struck down, but the Conservatives now want to get around it by making the purchase of sex illegal. This is draconian, because, if prostitution is legal, how can the purchase of sexual services be illegal?

Don't really care if it's legal or illegal..

How embarrassing it must be, in a world where SO many girls will do it for FREE, to have to admit YOU have to pay for sex in order to get "it."

Not directed at YOU Vancouverite, but in GENERAL..

So you're not a virgin. You must have scored recently, somehow.

The National Post refers to a law professor who pointed to the critical problem with the Nordic model.

Quote:

This law creates institutionalized state-sponsored entrapment. A woman can advertise the sale of sexual services, sell them legally but the man who takes the bait and pays for it will face the full force of criminal law

So she can sell, but he can't buy - where's the logic in that???

That explains why you didn't have to pay.

It's a ridiculous little game... Make prostitution illegal, no problem... The girls can just as easily advertise themselves as form of 'business consultant' and later decide to have sex with their client.

Prostitute: Hello, uh, Mr. Smith.. How's business?
Client: Terrible, sales are down.
Prostitute:Unfortunate news. My advice is that you should work harder to increase sales.
Client: Thanks
Prostitute:Okay, here's my bill for $250 for the advice... Say, I'm in the mood, wanna knock boots?

Why do I get the feeling that this "JOHN" Bill is more about guys buyin/surfin porn online, than rentin a lovely ladies lovin, and caring company, for a while?

Necessary laws are already in place to regulate prostitution.

My girlfriend loves the benefits she receives when we go out...At least I hope she does...Cuz it's no secret what a man wants after a hard night of dating...

...A hug and kiss goodnight; of course.

The choice is hers.

Justice Minister Peter MacKay dodged questions Thursday from both the Liberal and NDP about whether he would send the new anti-prostitution bill immediately to the Supreme Court for a reference on its constitutionality.

A top court ruling on whether the proposed legislation passes constitutional muster could bypass years of lower- and appeals-court rulings, if the bill is challenged, before it eventually lands in the lap of the highest court.

But in question period in the House of Commons, MacKay didn't address the the queries about a possible court reference. Instead he spoke of the bill's purpose which is to help women, "exit [from prostitution] and find a better, healthier and safer life."

Last December the Supreme Court struck down most of the prohibitions against activities related to prostitution on the grounds they drove the legal act of prostitution underground and put sex workers, mostly women, in harm's way, violating their rights of security.

The court gave the government a year to come up with a new bill.
