Ford brothers accused of mixing their political jobs with a private company

There are allegations Mayor Rob Ford and his brother, Councillor Doug Ford, intervened with staff at city hall on behalf of a company that buys product from the Ford family business, Deco Labels.

It is alleged that the brothers failed to inform city staff of this commercial relationship.

The Globe and Mail reports this transpired in 2010, just after the Fords were elected.

The intervention was on behalf of Apollo Health and Beauty Care.

It was trying to secure a generous property tax grant from the city but City Manager Joe Pennachetti refused.

What the Globe found under the Freedom of Information Act was a cache of e-mails, letters, and memos showing "a pattern of intervention by the Fords" on Apollo's behalf that extended to "a variety of municipal issues, from stop-sign designations to building permits."

City Manager Pennachetti and five other senior civil servants told the Globe they had no idea of a commercial relationship between Apollo and the Ford owned Deco Labels and Tags.
