On Harbledown Island, near the entrance to remote and majestic Knight Inlet, lies the tiny village of the Tsatsisnukwomi, home to the Da’naxda’xw First Nation. In the past 12 years, federal taxpayers have put up $9.1 million to revive this abandoned village. Today, it has just 17 residents, all in one extended family. Meanwhile, many of the about 200 off-reserve members of the First Nation complain the band has not held elections for chief and council since 1987.
