The Quebec Liberal party may soon have to provide a new definition for the word “toast”, especially when used to describe its political future in the province.

The corruption hearings going on in Montreal are offering all the allegations of law-breaking, bribery and double-dealing that many foresaw. If anything, the revelations are even more outlandish than expected. Tales of kickbacks, contract-rigging and political payoffs abound, all accompanied by the kind of colour and entertainment value you rarely get outside of Hollywood. No wonder Premier Jean Charest was willing to risk an election before any of this could be made public: The possibility of losing to Pauline Marois’s Parti Quebecois must have looked infinitely more attractive than trying to run a government in the face of public outrage over Liberal chicanery.

I only question the use of the word 'Liberal' in this story.

There's absolutely no reason to think it's not widespread among the other parties, too.

True enough. Quebec has a history of corruption in government at all three levels that predates the Liberal government of the 1960s. It is simply the way business is done in the province. Interestingly, most Quebecois are strongly offended by corruption in their government, but it is so pervasive it is difficult to erradicate.

The other parties haven't had a chance to govern as long so they don't rake in the big bucks.

Ontario is/was no better according to a former developer I know. At one time if you wanted a pub license you paid a fee to a certain person and you got your permits in no time. Came a change in government and ll of a sudden nothing got done because the people that make things happen despite rules no longer knew who to pay off.

Hmmm, Now what about when the NDP and Thomas Mulcair were ordered by the court to RE-PAY $340,000.00 back to 8 "un-named" Unions that funded thier fund-raiser?

Now what party took Quebec in the last federal election? Now what party gushed about Quebec Union Jobs? Now what party was ordered to pay back Fraudulent donations???? Now what party refuses to disclose the Unions who funneled the 340,000????

Ummm Yea, the NDP are dirtier that pig-pen in this.... Thomas Mulcair will simply blame this on Jack Layton when it all comes out in the investigation... Buckle up Mulciar!

Quebec has a long history of corruption. Are we still paying for the Big Owe?

Ontario also has a long history with 'influential' people bidding on goverment services and in neither case does it matter which Political party is in charge.

Those 'bidders' of said opportunities to 'supply services' have no Political discrimination.

Check out what's going on with the OLG and the 'super casino' that will provide 10,000 high paying jobs!?

Oh really..................
