as leadership jockeying begins

Wednesday night’s defeat in the House of Commons of a motion to study when life begins is more a reversal of fortune than a coup de grace to the hopes of pro-lifers.

Conservative MP Stephen Woodworth’s motion would have set up a parliamentary committee to examine the current definition of a human being, which says children become human at the moment of complete birth.

Yes, I expect that Harper allowed it to go forward, knowing that it wouldn't go anywhere, thus placating the nutbars without changing the status quo.

Shades of 'Yes, Prime Minister', for certain.

So, anyone that disagrees, that thinks there should be some limitation on abortion is a "nutbar"??/

Man, you have labeled a large section of the Canadian population.

Man, you have to stop using your own prejudices to label other people.

I was referring to the nutbars in the conservative party, not the Canadian population.

Votes bought, motion delivered, motion struck down as expected, votes still good for two more years.

Welcome to politics.

I'm strongly opposed to abortion not because I'm Catholic or poitically motivated. It's killing our species.

Screw the whales or polar bears. Save ourselves dammit.

From a strictly scientific standpoint, examining when life begins is a worthwhile exercise. But would you trust something like that to Parliament?

1/3? Yeah I'd say 1/3 of Canadians are nutbars. 5 Star Nutbars

1/3 above average intelligence
1/3 average intelligence
1/3 nutbar

Simple averages

Umm, hello people....when life begins? Life began a couple of billion years ago! The procreation of our species I'd the joining of two already living cells creating a chemical reaction allowing them to multiply. I think the whole 'when life begins' question is misleading because the cells (egg & sperm) are already alive. The debate is really when does consciousness begin. Isn't self-awareness the more reasonable standard. You know, I think therefore I am!

On another note anyone notice the minister for women, the advocate for women's rights in parliament, voted for the bill?
