Ontario’s angry teachers are in a tough spot when it comes to political action against their new worst enemy, Premier Dalton McGuinty.

McGuinty is one of three men from three parties covering the gamut of the political spectrum who have been elected as premier of Ontario in the past 20 years. The teachers now officially despise all of them.

McGuinty used to be popular with teachers, but now they can’t stand him. This puts him into the small, exclusive club previously reserved for Bob Rae of the NDP and Mike Harris of the Conservatives. (Ernie Eves, who succeeded Harris, lost his one election bid and didn’t last long enough to make the grade). So acute are teachers’ needs that the distance from the far left to the far right among Canada’s political parties apparently isn’t sufficient to find a leader of any stripe that they can live with.
