I agree that there are many good police officers doing their jobs everyday like the
rest of us. Many do community volunteer work and work with kids to keep them
off the streets.
The serious problem is we have too many bad apples in the RCMP to the over all
frustration of all of us. Instead of rooting out the problem we point to the good ones
so the hard job of cleaning up the force doesn't have to be done. Have you noticed
lately, that there are fewer bad cop stories? Not because they have cleaned things
up its because they are covering up bad things going on which means things are
now worse.
The problem for this force is we went from recruiting qualified people to a quota system
where everyone must be represented in a society regardless of the qualifications of the
people being hired. Its like saying we will except chronic drunks but not alcoholics.
What needs to happen to stem the flow and bring respect back to the force and to the
good cops serving the community?
We need to first shake up the leadership in the Mounties
We need to ensure we have qualified people doing the job.
Never mind these bloody quota's if you can't do the job you don't get the job.
Someone must be in charge and there must be some form of community oversight.
The police cannot be allowed to police themselves
And last but not least, this officer did their job they saved someone. The are not a hero
they just did their job. Our society has sunk so low we are on a desperate search for
hero's. Hero's are people from the ordinary ranks of life that do something so wonderful
and brave, it is believed, that should be the definition of hero. In this case a good job
done though.
