Ok, we are bombardded by American media(CBS, ABC, etc.), we have the same type of services and lives as Americans (Wal-Mart, McDonalds, etc.)

So what honestly makes us different, culturally. Not politically, but as a culture, and a people.

Personally I don't see myself at all different, culturally, to Americans. I associate quite well with them, and feel the same when I go across the border.

So: What makes us different culturally? I am having trouble with this, and sort of having a culture identity crisis.

Culture, in general, means a set of learned beliefs, values and behaviors the way of life shared by the members of a society. For the most part we believe in multiculturalism. The US mostly believes in integration. We are quite a bit more socialistic than the US. We seem to prefer to be governed differently. Our military values are different. We make better beer and seem to place a higher value on it that Americans do. :D

Eh, I am Canadian and:

>Believe in integration and the Melting Pot idea
>Believe in lower taxes and a person should make their own life and not be supported by the gov.
>Believe that diplomacy only works temporarily and sometimes we need to go in and have a war.

Am I not Canadian?
Am I like an American in Canada?

Well yes, of course we are diffierent. Having said that, I will say one thing. We both bleed, we both hurt the same, we both love the same. I am sorry to be this way, but I really am having an eye-opening weekend here and it seems to me instead of looking for what is different, at this time in the world, we look at what we share that is the same.

Canada is run by Liberal-thinking people
American is run by Conservative-thinking people

I am a Conservative-thinking person in a Liberal-thinking nation.

I struggle with that.
No don't call me a traiter.. but I have been looking at moving to the USA for the last 2 years...

Liberals won't control the USA.

2/3 of America is tradionalist
85% of Americans call themselves Christian
91% of Americans believe in a supreme deity.

People are mad about Iraq, but the other stuff, they want conservative ideals.

Read "Culture Warrior" by Bill O'Reilly, if the Secular Progressives take control of the USA, I will have lost faith in the only good nation left on Earth.

Canada is slowly dying, and it's becoming a eurpean style nanny state. It hurts to admit it, but we need to fix some things.

I hate to say it too. But I agree with the above statement. I am pesimistic about Canada and have very little patriotic mentality anymore.

Canada is turning into the European type nations. Nanny-state is right on the money.

A nation with high taxes, bordering socialism, that provides for everyone?

Think not?

Health Care
Welfare
Unemployment insurance
etc.

Our taxes are so high, and everyone and all the lower class citizens are cushioned by the gov.

I believe in lower taxes, and making your own life, not having it doled out by the gov.

This is probably a big factor of why I am wanting to move to the USA. I want myself and my future family to be in a nation that is more of a "go out and make something for yourself" place, and more free.

Canada is heading to close to socialism, that it is already slowly spiralling into those nations in Europe like France and Holland.

Thats why I personally see USA as the last hope.. and I hope Liberals never take control of it.

You know; there is welfare, healthcare, unemployment, etc in the USA, too, don't you? Better education in Canada than the USA. More people are provided for in healthcare than the USA. Lots of things in anada that are better than the USA. But, suit yerself. Bye bye.

Taking care of our own citizens:

I believe they should have the right to treatment but have to pay it off as they can.
I believe a person shouldn't live under a bridge, but if they want welfare, they better start going to school, or work, and they should have yearly check-ups on the use of that welfare.

But Canada goes over the top and hides under the flag 'Human Rights'

Soon do you want to have caps on your $$, and huge taxes, and everyone being provided everything from the government?

Thats where its heading..

Edit to L Gilbert: America gives people enough so they have a chance at something, but not enough to give them a free ride.

Canada gives there citizens a free-ride, on high taxes.
